Camas High School traveled on Monday, February 27th, to Longview Community College in Longview to compete in the SW Washington Regional Knowledge Bowl Tournament. It was an auspicious day for Camas Knowledge Bowl. Here are the results:
— At the SW WA Regional Varsity Tournament held this past Monday, Camas had 5 teams compete in the 4A division tourney of 9 total teams. Congratulations to Camas Varsity #1 who took home top honors in the tourney, earning first place and a trip to the state tournament, which will be held on Sat. March 18th at Arlington HS. Varsity #1 is anchored by seniors Jason Kim, Chemay Shola, and Calvin Taylor; juniors Noah Thompson and Jesse Lester. Bravo! Camas Varsity #2 took second place. This team is composed of seniors Shannon Wells-Moran, Krishnan Nair, Anish Prasad, and Vincent Wu; junior Daniel Fan; sophomore Rahul Ram. Had this been the old state berth system of not limiting each school to one state qualifier, these kids would have also earned a trip to the state, but, alas, that was changed this year. Let’s wish Camas #1 the best of luck as they seek to repeat a trip to the championship afternoon round where they would have a chance to compete for some more hardware for the trophy case, continuing a 7 year streak whereby CHS k-bowl teams have done so (finishing 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 3rd at the state meet over the last seven years). Good luck at state, Knowledge Bowlers! Varsity Scores (.pdf)
— With 42 JV teams competing from 27 schools all across ESD 112, the nine highest scoring JV teams over our four regular season meets are invited to compete in the JV Invitational Tourney, which was also held this past Monday in Longview. This year, Camas HS k-bowl qualified 5 of our 7 teams, claiming 5 of the team spots in this 9-team JV tourney. Wow! And they did very well. Two of our Camas teams brought home trophies, earning a 2nd and a 3rd place! That makes them the second and third best JV teams out of all 42 in ESD 112. Again …. wow! The other teams finished 4th, 6th, and 8th. The 2nd place trophy went home with JV#4. They are made up of Sam Walters, Issac Duquette, Addison Gonzalez, Jordan Chase, Junha Lee, and Jaden Kim. JV# 1, the team that took home the 3rd place trophy, is comprised of Jesse Kim, Maia Kawamura, Jason Liu, Christopher Xia, and Yun Ma. A great showing. Bravo! JV Scores (.pdf)
Great season, Camas Knowledge Bowl. I’m very proud of all of you and the hard work you put into attending practice, learning how to work more effectively with a team, and on the sportsmanship you displayed and honed this season. No matter the outcome for you and your team yesterday, I hope you can take some solace in being a part of the well-oiled machine that is Camas Knowledge Bowl!
On to state later this month. Thanks for your support this year!
P.S. The awards dessert banquet is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28th, in the North Commons, from 5:30-7:00. Details forthcoming.
