Camas High School traveled this past Monday to Lower Columbia College and competed in the SW Washington Regional Knowledge Bowl Tournament. It was an auspicious day for CHS Knowledge Bowl. We won the varsity tournament, placing first overall, thus qualifying one of our teams to go to state. And the JV teams also did very well, placing first overall and third place out of nine total! In short, the kids did us proud once again.
Varsity Tourney — At the SW WA Regional Varsity Tournament held this past Monday, Camas had 5 teams compete in the 4A division tourney of 9 total teams. Congratulations to Camas Varsity #1 who took home top honors in the tourney, earning first place and a trip to the state tournament, which will be held on Sat. March 17th at Arlington HS. Varsity #1 is made up of Noah Thompson, Jesse Lester, Daniel Fan, Monica Chang, Abigail Jiang, and Rahul Ram. Let’s wish Camas #1 the best of luck as they head off to State where they will have a chance to compete for some more hardware for the trophy case, continuing an 8 year streak whereby CHS k-bowl teams have done so (finishing 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 6th, 3rd, and 4th at the state meet over the last eight years). Good luck at State, Knowledge Bowlers! Varsity Scores (.pdf)
JV Tourney — In the course of the regular knowledge bowl season, some 41 JV teams compete from about 27 schools all across ESD 112 region. After the final regular season match, the nine highest scoring JV teams over the course of the four regular season meets are invited to compete in the JV Invitational Tourney, which was also held this past Monday in Longview. This year, Camas HS k-bowl qualified all 5 of our JV teams, claiming 5 of the team spots in this 9-team JV tourney. Wow! And they did very well. Two of our Camas teams brought home trophies, earning a 1st and a 3rd place! That makes them the first and third best JV teams out of all 41 in ESD 112. Again …. wow! The 1st place trophy went home with freshmen phenoms JV#3, after they edged out the competition in an exciting tie breaker. They are Ali Burris, Alex Gee, Tyler Gee, Akash Prasad, Ben Saunders, and George Walker. JV# 4, the team that took home the 3rd place trophy, is comprised of Rose Leveen, Walter Scheldorf, Yozen Fang, Ethan Hansen, Alex Duquette, and Yun Ma. A fine showing by all, indeed. Bravo! I’m very proud of all of you and the hard work you put into attending practice, learning how to work more effectively with a team, and on the impressive sportsmanship you displayed and honed this season. No matter the outcome for you and your team this week, I hope you can take some solace in being a part of the well-oiled machine that is Camas Knowledge Bowl!
Thanks for your support this year!
