Skyridge Practice Schedule, etc.

This is quick update on the Skyridge plan for practice next week and beyond.  As I’ve alluded to before, we have excellent participation in our Knowledge Bowl program at Skyridge.  That’s fabulous, but it makes it difficult to run an effective practice when we have 50 students trying to buzz in at the 3 “paddles” for a chance to answer when only about 6-8 students can be at each paddle at any one time. So, starting next week, we are moving to an alternating practice schedule.

Given the irregularity of the days our meets are happening on starting the week of 02/20, there’s not much regularity with the practice days, but I did my best to try and make it somewhat consistent. I’ve sketched this all out for the rest of the season on a calendar that both kids and parents have access to on the web:  http://kbowl.mistergweb.com/skyridge/calendar/  Please review this with your student and email me if you have questions. By the way, if kids have conflicts with a scheduled practice day (language lessons, music lessons, appointments, etc.), they can just skip that day’s practice, OR they can come to the other grade level practice that week to make it up, if they want. To be clear, making up the practice is not required.

Looking forward to next week, we’ll be doing two very important tasks: handing out uniforms and revealing the teams for this year.  FYI, uniforms should be kept at school in lockers and taken home and laundered as needed after competitions.  As for the teams, I like to try to blend them with a combination of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in attempt to balance them by skill and grade level to give each team a chance for success and mentorship from the older students.  Stay tuned for that next week.

Please email with questions … Cheers!

Sam Greene

P.S. Students also now have access to independent practice written and oral questions from previous seasons through their CSD# 117 Google login here:  https://goo.gl/dNLA2E  This is optional practice, but some kids like to practice outside of the time we have for that at school.
